If it weren’t for the support of others I never would have gotten out of my marriage except by death. In American-eze I’m weak. In American-eze I should have been able to just do it all…

  1. Thanks for sharing my blog entry. 🙂 I was reading your story about the church and have had a similar experience with an elder meeting about 6 years ago. So painful. Not sure the scars ever go away on that. 😦 Anyway, thanks also for following my blog.

    1. Thank you so much for your blog and sharing your story. Yes, I don’t know if the pain ever goes away. I was reading Barbara M. Orlowski’s book Spiritual Abuse Recovery, which she wrote her thesis about. Barb has the Church Exiters website in Canada: http://www.churchexiters.com/ And she comments on Julie Anne Smith’s Spiritual Sounding Board (Pacific Northwest) and Dee and Deb’s The Wartburg Watch in North Carolina. https://spiritualsoundingboard.com/ http://thewartburgwatch.com/

Ours is not, sadly, an uncommon experience dealing with spiritual abuse in churches.

Natalie Klewja has The Visionary Womanhood blog. (She also has an awesome soap making business in Minnesota, Apple Valley Natural Soaps and I order some nice things from her now and again.) http://visionarywomanhood.com/

Natalie is being excommunicated from John Piper’s former church in Minnesota, Bethlehem Baptist Church, for leaving her abusive husband of many decades. At Christian therapist Leslie Vernick’s recent conference, Natalie wrote that she met many other Christian woman who were abused by their churches and excommunicated for leaving abusive husbands.

When Jesus isn’t weeping, He must be furious!
